There are five reasons this company will not cooperate with Gmail.

  • The Google people - especially the management - have a sordid history of 'just not getting it' when it comes to security and more importantly privacy. The scandals through the years together with the revelation their mailbox for security alerts automatically destroyed all incoming correspondence tells a clear story.

  • Google sell API access to their caches and databases. Given their track record it's hardly inconceivable people can crack these APIs to gain access to people's private correspondence.

  • Google management have over the years inadvertently revealed a 'greed' to get personal information from everyone and everywhere. They even want to cull data from people's personal hard drives and put this in their immensely profitable data stores.

  • Webmail providers have been known to base advertising on subscription information such as country of origin and gender but Google actually scan your personal private correspondence to target their advertising. This is simply tasteless and the security and privacy ramifications given Google's horrific track record are considerable.

  • Google management say explicitly - almost boasting - that if you remove deleted mail messages from your 'trash' they are not really gone: Google never throw anything away. Again: given Google's consistent track record on security and privacy and their cavalier attitude towards client confidentiality this cannot augur well.
