Get It

Try It
My view of Microsoft is that they had two goals in the last 10 years - to copy the Macintosh and to copy Lotus' success in the application business. And they accomplished those goals. Now they're kind of lost. I've told Bill I think it's in Microsoft's best interests if NeXT becomes successful because we'll give them something to copy for the rest of this decade.
 - Steve Jobs

Under both NeXTSTEP and OpenStep (and probably Rhapsody) users must log in to the computer. In a corporate or academic setting with multiple users the system administrator will assign each user a username and password as well as set your access privileges for various programs or files on the network which you cannot change. If you're the sole user of your system you get unlimited access to everything. This login requirement is common for users of mainframe and minicomputers as well as Windows 95, Windows NT, Macintosh At Ease, and other systems that use Unix.
 - Arlen Britton

Once you unlock the door and walk through you're in what's called the Workspace (the NeXTSTEP and OpenStep equivalent of the Macintosh desktop) where (naturally) you do your work. So it follows that the Workspace is controlled by the Workspace Manager which is equivalent to the Mac Finder. While this might seem to be a confusing concept to grasp at first don't get worked up over it - Apple say you should not draw any conclusions about the Rhapsody interface based on the current version of OpenStep. Translation: Apple will no doubt change the interface and probably the terminology as well.

It is amazing you know. She's been thrust in the spotlight with very little national preparation and I think all things considered you saw a very composed and effective debater.
 - Bill Clinton

I come from Arkansas. I get why she's hot out there.
 - Bill Clinton

I think it's fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career - in the guy's living room.
 - Sarah Palin

It goes to the issue of what kind of judgement would allow an unrepentant domestic terrorist to host a political event for you in his home.
 - Tim Pawlenty

When Shane says Obama never expressed sympathy for Ayers' radicalism he's flat wrong - Obama funded it.
 - Stanley Kurtz

The New York Times in the tank for Obama? You bet. And sinking deeper every day.
 - Stanley Kurtz

I hope that something in this current crash, something good that could come out of it, is that people who have had telephone number salaries just for the sake of proving how virile they are have actually been forced rethink not only their situation and what they do with their lives and how it affects other people but also what the money's for.
 - Roger Graef

Here's my plan to keep voters for Obama away from the polls on election day. I think it's worth hundreds of thousands of votes in key battleground states. First: we stop running ads on the radio and do very few on TV. Instead we stockpile the money for a giant crack and marijuana buy and of course lots of kegs of beer. Second: we start dropping flyers on college campuses in key battleground states. We hire a bunch of bands and hold a 'smoke out for Obama concert' at places like Ohio State, Penn State, University of Penn, Michigan, University of Florida, FSU, and of course University of Colorado. All day event, drink and smoke all day for free. We take the crack down to the 'get crunked for Obama rallies', hire Lil Wayne (he needs the money since he owes the IRS a million in back taxes) and maybe Kanye, Lupe, and Souljer Boy, and throw these events at venues in Philadelphia, Detroit, Columbus, and Miami. Come early and smoke for free all day. We just Lear Jet these guys from one venue to the next, all day on 4 November.

Problem solved. Young people for Obama would now have something better to do than go vote, even once, much less often, and we also don't have to listen to under 25 Obots in the lines at the polls, we'll only be left with 45 and unders with their 7-11 Obama coffee cups. That will be enough of a challenge on E-Day. Be sure to take your anti-nausea medication before driving to the precincts - I am sure we'll need it!

The additional bonus to my plan is if we stop putting money into ads for the next five weeks we won't have made anybody who has been forced to watch ten ads an hour for a month on our candidate want to pull their hair out everytime they turn on the TV. The only one being shoved down the voters throats would be Obama and we all know how sick we are of hearing him already - just think of how much we will hate the sound of his voice by 4 November.

Apple should have just taken the FreeBSD code, slapped a proprietary DE on top of it, and called it a day. But then all of those 'Brother thalos' in Beige Box Land would have had a fit over file extensions and the concept of OS boundaries. (What!!?? I can't put my System folder on my desktop???)

Leave the underlying tweaking and refinement to the community and concentrate on perfecting the DE. But no. They want their cake and be able to eat it too. As long as that overrated and overpriced hardware dongle exists, they're irrelevant.
 - 'AlphaMack'

Consumers aren't getting all they want when companies are very proprietary and lock their products down. I'd like to write some more powerful apps than what you're allowed.

I read though the emails - ALL OF THEM - before I posted, and what I concluded was anticlimactic, there was nothing there, nothing incriminating, nothing that would derail her campaign as I had hoped.
 - David Kernell

Then the white knight fucker came along and did it in for everyone. I trusted /b/ with that password. I got done what I could do well then passed the torch, all to be let down by the douchebaggery. Good job /b/. This is why we can't have nice things.
 - David Kernell

Dynamite! Of all the good stuff, that is the stuff! Stuff several pounds of this sublime stuff into an inch pipe... Plug up both ends, insert a cap with a fuse attached, place this in the immediate vicinity of a lot of rich loafers who live by the sweat of other people's brows, and light the fuse. A most cheerful and gratifying result will follow. In giving dynamite to the downtrodden millions of the globe science has done its best work.
 - Albert Parsons

Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents. That's where it's really at.
 - Bill Ayers

Guilty as hell. Free as a bird. America is a great country.
 - Bill Ayers

Dig it: first they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them. They even shoved a fork into a victim's stomach. Wild!
 - Bernardine Dohrn

In a revolution innocent people have to die.

Memory is a motherfucker.

Somebody needs to shut down this scammed election process immediately and hold everything until ACORN and Barack Obama are investigated for conspiring to fix an election. This is a matter of national security.
 - 'Uppity'

The latest allegations of voter registration fraud by ACORN are further evidence that this group cannot be trusted with another dollar of the taxpayers' money.

Election cycle after election cycle this organization has been at the forefront of breaking the law in order to promote their left wing agenda. All the while they have been the recipients of millions of dollars of federal funding through various federal programs and third party groups. House Republicans took a stand recently to cut off funding to an ACORN slush fund created by their allies in the house majority but now more must be done.

All federal funding to ACORN must be stopped. The ACORN slush fund must be disbanded. Sources of federal funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development or any other agency must be stopped. Contracting for services between candidates for federal office and ACORN, as Senator Obama has done, must end. Now that the taxpayers own Fannie Mae, any funding from Fannie Mae's nonprofit foundation to ACORN must stop.

ACORN spent decades promoting the housing policies that brought America's economy to the brink and similarly over the years has committed fraud on our system of elections, making American voters question the fairness and accuracy of the exercise of their most fundamental right under the Constitution. Now it is time to cut off ACORN before it grows even more destructive.
 - John Boehner

There are no words to describe how low rent and vile this whole election has been. From what Obama and the DNC did to Hillary to uncovering all of this crap. Obama is the Antichrist. Sorry but he is. I am soooo tired of having to scrub his filth off of me every day. His campaign has been about hate, racism, negativity, America bashing, lies, deceit, fraud, terrorism, threats, intimidation, thuggery, you name it. NOTHING positive or AMERICAN about Obama and his thugs from Chicago. I can't WAIT until this is over.
 - 'THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE'

Bill Ayers - just another guy who lives in my neighbourhood. Where the hell does he live? Elm Street? Farakhan. Wright. Ayers. Khaladi. Auchi. Rezko. Dohrn. On and on. Just too damn many scary people who just happen to live in his neighbourhood.
 - 'JGDBA Wright'

Where's my soundman? I'm gonna have my soundman come out here so everyone knows who messed up the sound.
 - Obama

Vote for change? I do not want this type of change! Bring back Hillary or Kerry - not Obama.
 - 'rascalcurve'

You will get bad reviews no matter want. Don't let the bozos get you down.
 - Karl Kraft

The NDA didn't stop me from writing code, but it does stop me from sharing 20 years of experience as it relates to this platform.
 - Karl Kraft

You know what's gonna suck? The next 4 years.
 - 'DrewM'

I'll be in my bunker.
 - 'Darth Bacon'

The thing I hate about BO and his followers is how they have contempt for our country and our custom of electing our leaders fairly.
 - 'Seattlegirl'

The Cubs got swept. The White Sox got eliminated. Let's hope that this is as far as this nightmare from Chicago gets.
 - 'oh_dude'

They're all dependent little shits you know, sucking down their parents' retirement money. They're takers. Many of them are still living home at age 30. These are the same little ingrates that after spending down everything their parents have will vote to get rid of their own parents' social security checks. These are the people who cut class to caucus and intimidate old ladies and the disabled while their parents who are paying for their education were at work and couldn't caucus. For those of you who have one of these on your hands, you know they can't even coordinate trash night, much less pick a president. I've been reading studies about the current college crowd and how 80% of them score high on the Narcissism Test. Just like Obama.
 - 'Uppity'

I've never experienced this level of negativity on MacRumors.com and I am logging off until at least Thursday. Perhaps by that time we will actually have legitimate opinions from those that have seen/used the new notebooks.
 - 'ntrigue'

Barack Obama is more of an abject failure than George W Bush was when he became president and that's saying a lot.
 - 'SusanUnPC'

Obama makes me nuts. I just can't with him any more. He makes me want to tear out hair and gnash teeth. Why bother to debate a liar in the first place? Every word Obama says is a lie, pre-constructed and pre-approved. It makes me crazy.
 - 'Ginger'

Ayers is a terrorist, the narcissistic son of privilege and clout.
 - John Kass

It's all fun and games to laugh at stupid people but this is a mess we made. It's not cool to learn, to study, to be informed. It's geeky, nerdish - elitist even. Until we crush religion and leave behind these modern day dark ages we've made stuff like this is going to be the rule, not the exception.
 - 'rhesusmonkeydave'

It's only when you begin to peel back the layers that you begin to see a disturbing pattern.
 - Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell

I voted today. First Republican vote ever. I voted a straight Republican ticket and damn it felt good. Every time I pressed that screen I thought of how these people I used to love trashed women.
 - 'mcpalin hill'

Palin is definitely a stinky foul corrupting filthy vagina.
 - 'Shecky'

Republicans give me the chance to let my true sexism show.
 - 'Forced to Pretend I Believe in Equal Rights'

Obama is a bright man and he's certainly well read and intelligent. He had to know the background and activities which have been openly described by Ayers.
 - Former associate FBI department director Buck Revell

I have a problem with Obama minimising the relationship and saying it has nothing to do with anything.
 - Former FBI agent Max Noel

This is one leopard that didn't get the spots erased. It's a pathetic situation when the state of Illinois allow this man to teach on a university level with minds of young people that are somewhat impressionable and since he hasn't given up that idea of terrorism, of laying down bombs and not having any contrition for it at all: that's a deplorable situation that I think ought to be explored by the state of Illinois.
 - Former New York FBI assistant director Bill Gavin on Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn
