Have a #HAPPYDAY.
For the background to this story, click here.
'Happiness is our people's right. We shouldn't be too hard on behaviours caused by joy', tweeted the account of Iran's president Hassan Rouhani.
For making their #HAPPY video (first in the list below) the group - Sassan Soleimani, Reyhaneh Taravati, Neda Motameni, Afshin Sohrabi, Bardia Moradi, Roham Shamekhi, and another identified only by the first name Sepideh - were sentenced to six months in prison and 91 lashes.
Taravati received an additional six months on her prison sentence for possession of alcohol and her role in distributing the video.
Soon after they were arrested they had to appear on national TV to confess their crimes. Tehran's chief of police condemned the group's actions at the time and described the video as 'obnoxious'.
One might write about freedom of speech or freedom of expression, but this is something more. Anyone can go to YouTube and assemble a list of 50 '#HAPPY' videos or more. The purpose of this presentation however is to shove the clips right in the faces of those sick bastards (in a sick culture) who could do such a thing.
Be #HAPPY. Have a #HAPPYDAY.
