Great gems can be hidden in executable and other binary files. The difficulty is in getting to them.
Xstrings is an adaptation of the classic 'strings' tool which tries to find sensible character sequences that may hopefully mean something to you.
But Xstrings goes farther than its counterparts, poking extended attributes such as Finder info and HFS+ resource forks and probing them for info as well.

Xstrings scans can be exported in easy to view plain text format and the Xstrings window can drop any or all of its contents on any text editor at any time.
