JAMAICA PLAIN (The Technological) — Talk about recycling waste. The Park Spark Project recycles dog doo-doo to power park lamps, tea carts, and popcorn stands.



'Methane digesters' (mostly buried underground) are used to transform pucky into energy. People depositing gifts from their pets crank a handle to stir things up and the gas is piped to a gas burning lamppost.

1. Toss shit in biodegradable bag into digester.
2. Stir to help methane rise to the top.
3. Burn the methane.

Any organic material put in an airtight container will produce methane. Methane (CH₄) is the natural component of natural gas (yes just like farts) and it's still used for cooking and heating.

Anaerobic bacteria are some of the oldest forms of life on earth. Decomposition occurs naturally in swamps, waterlogged soils, rice fields, deep bodies of water, and in the digestive systems of termites and large animals.
