AAPL Continue to Clobber MSFT
Congrats and a big 'thank you' to Cupertino.
CUPERTINO (Rixstep) — Apple already passed the failing Microsoft in market cap; now they're clobbering the former giant in overall profits as well.
The recent fiscal quarter ended on 25 September for Apple, on 30 September for Microsoft. Apple posted revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion.
'We are blown away to report over $20 billion in revenue and over $4 billion in after-tax earnings - both all-time records for Apple', said Steve Jobs.
'iPhone sales of 14.1 million were up 91 percent year-over-year, handily beating the 12.1 million phones RIM sold in their most recent quarter. We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year.'
Shipments of Macintosh computers were up 27% to nearly 4 million units. They sold over 4 million iPads, over 9 million iPods, and over 14 million iPhones. Supply supposedly lagged on the iPhone - otherwise sales could have been higher.
Redmond reported revenue for only $16.2 billion - $4 billion or 20% less than Cupertino.
