Has anyone else begun with code-signing like Apple? Let's hope not.

Are you comfortable with that?

Try It

Has anyone else begun with code-signing like Apple? Let's hope not.

Has anyone else begun with code-signing like Apple? Let's hope not. The Apple idea depends on a root certificate issued to Apple. No one else has that certificate. If the certificate is missing or the enclosed package is corrupt, Apple won't run the software.

So your entire world depends on Apple issuing the certificate.

But wait, for it gets better. The validity of these certificates can be checked in realtime, meaning that as you double-click your application, a query goes out to Apple Internet servers, and they have to respond in the affirmative, otherwise your application will not run.

Which is exactly what happened the day Apple released their last major OS update. It was a fucking mess - worldwide.

Apple can revoke their approval at any time - in realtime. So if Auntie Tim turns sour on you, he can pull the 'kill switch' and suddenly your application will not run anymore.

Are you comfortable with that?

And if they tell you that this is all for your benefit, will you believe them?
